Facebook Content Creators In Kenya Now Eligible For Monetisation With 5,000 Followers

Facebook owner, Meta has finally rolled out features allowing content creators on its platform in Kenya to earn revenue from short-form videos via adnvertisements, the social network has said.

Meta said features, Facebook Ads on Reels and In-Stream Ads on Facebook, will let creators make money by producing original videos and growing their community.

According to Moon Baz, Meta’s Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, Middle East, and Turkey, claims that the features will enable Kenyan content creators to make money.

5 ways to make money on Facebook.

  1. Fan Subscriptions: Creators can earn money directly from their fans through monthly subscriptions. Fans pay to support their favorite creators in exchange for exclusive content and badges.
  2. Stars: Viewers can purchase Stars and send them to creators during live videos. Each Star has a monetary value, providing a direct way for fans to contribute financially.
  3. In-Stream Ads: Creators can earn revenue through ad placements in their videos. This includes pre-roll, mid-roll, and banner ads.
  4. Branded Content: Creators can collaborate with brands and get paid to create sponsored content. This allows them to monetize their influence and reach through partnerships.
  5. Affiliate Marketing: Creators can earn commissions by promoting products and services through affiliate links.

Eligible creators in Kenya will be able to earn for their video and reels content with support in over 30 languages globally including Swahili.

To use either product, creators must pass and comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies, and be at least 18 years old. For In-Stream Ads, Meta said creators must meet certain eligibility requirements, such as having a minimum of 5,000 followers.

Why Jude Bellingham avoided Euro 2024 ban but  Merih Demiral was punished by UEFA amid goal celebration

UEFA make decision on ban for Merih Demiral and Jude Bellingham, but the Turkey defender has been handed a much harsher penalty.

Both players were charged for making indecent gestures during their round of 16 games, with Bellingham committing an offence against Slovakia and Demiral versus Austria.

Furious Turkey fans slam UEFA for difference in Jude Bellingham and Merih Demiral’s bans after both were sanctioned for controversial goal celebrations at Euro 2024.

These are the decisions following the celebrations of Demiral and Bellingham, UEFA statement confirmed.

The England midfielder seemed to grab his crotch while looking at the Slovakian bench after scoring an equaliser deep into stoppage time.

He has been handed one-game ban for his balls gesture but suspension is valid for a year, Bellingham will be able to play against Switzerland. He’s also been fined for €30k as Jude will serve a one game suspension within one year period of decision.

Meanwhile, Demiral’s wolf gesture appeared to be the symbol of a far-right ultra-nationalist ‘Grey Wolves’ group. The group is banned in France, and the wolf gesture is similarly frowned upon in Austria who were Turkey’s opponents when he made the symbol.
Merih Demiral has been banned for two games and meaning he will miss Turkey’s clash with the Netherlands and a potential semi-final, UEFA confirms.

The Turkish Federation has already appealed to CAS

Demiral was found guilty of four rule breaches that include:

  • General principles of conduct
  • Violating the basic rules of decent conduct
  • Using a sporting event for manifestations of a non-sporting nature
  • Bringing the sport of football into disrepute

Revealed: MCAs raked In Billions In Monthly Sitting Allowances

County Assemblies spent Ksh.1.09 billion on MCAs sitting remittances during the initial nine months of Financial Year 2023/24, a report by the Controller of Budget plan currently shows.

Dated April 2024, the report features how the counties spent their allocated budget plan during the reporting period. In the report, MCAs were allocated Ksh.2 billion but spent Ksh.1 billion, meaning 54.4 percent absorption rate.

In contrast, the MCAs spent 43 per cent more than the previous financial year whereby Ksh.716.57 million was spent.

According to the report, Baringo MCAs earned the highest amount as each member earned an average monthly sitting allowance of Ksh.162,843. The County was allocated Ksh.89 million sitting allowances in the budget and spent Ksh.65 million from it.

This was followed by 31 Embu MCAs who earned Ksh.145,827 each, Kakamega MCAs (Ksh.100,282) and Machakos (Ksh.87,651).

Nairobi MCAs were allocated Ksh.84 million allowances in their budget but used Ksh.34 million, translating to 41 per cent. Each MCA earned Ksh.31,247.

Kakamega MCAs accounted for the highest budget allocation with Ksh.131 million whereby each MCA earned Ksh.100,282. Turkana MCAs received the lowest allowances with each MCA earning Ksh.19,667.

This comes in the midst of calls by the Kenyan youth for the Kenya Kwanza Administration to reduce down on expense and the assets to be distributed to basic regions.

During a roundtable conversation with the media, Ruto cautioned that the nation should get additional assets to recover the sum that should have been raised by Financial Bill, 2024.

Kenyans have, notwithstanding, focused on that the public authority ought to lessen the public compensation bill among different costs to consider the present status of undertakings.

ODM Initiates To Recall Six MPs For Voting To Pass Finance Bill 2024

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) now says it will initiate and lead recall processes for six Members of Parliament elected on the party ticket.

The MPs in peril and the different supporters they address are; Gem (Elisha Odhiambo), Bondo (Gideon Ochanda), Navakholo (Emmanuel Wangwe), Kajiado Central (Elijah Kanchory), Ikolomani (Bernard Shinali), and Suba South (Caroli Omondi).

Tending to columnists after a Central Committee meeting in Nairobi on Tuesday, ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna featured that the MPs dismissed their oaths of office by not considering the desires of their constituents prior to voting on the now withdrawn Finance Bill, 2024.

“ODM will start and lead review processes in the accompanying voting public considering the ongoing office holders rehashed infringement of their consecrated oaths and the desires of their electorate. They are; Gem, Bondo, Navakholo, Kajiado central, Ikolomani and Suba South,” said Sifuna.

Sifuna also commented on the recent incident where protesters stormed Parliament, deciphering it as a statement of disapproval in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He further called on the President William Ruto-led government to awaken and smell the coffee, and regard to the requests of the Kenyan people.

“In our view what happened on June 25, 2024, amounted to a vote of No confidence in the Ruto regime; it is clear that this fact is totally lost on Ruto and it is reflected in his petulant proposals on how we manage our economy following the rejection of the tax Bill,” said the Senator.

“Instead of focusing on cutting wastage, opulence and corruption in his regime, he is hitting back at the Kenyan people with threats to cut funding for the Judiciary and county governments.”

The ODM Secretary General also condemned the excessive use of force by police to disperse demonstrators and condemned reported cases of police abductions of protesters.

“We condemn the abuse of police power in the deployment of violent suppression techniques on innocent and unarmed protesters. we further condemn the ongoing arbitrary abductions of innocent Kenyans who are carted away in the most violent and inhumane manner and held incommunicado for days,” said Sifuna.

“The Head of State has tried to distance his regime from its killings, injuries and abductions, instead conjuring up theories when everybody can see the blood on his hands. We have the most callous, insensitive and obtuse regime in the history of Kenya. It is no wonder chants of ‘Ruto must go’ are ringing out all across our land.”

As per the Kenya National Commission Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), 39 individuals have been killed while a further 361 have been harmed in the protests between June 18 to July 1, 2024.

“We were shocked to see the President claiming on Live TV that only one life was lost; it tells you how out of touch with reality he is. The Kenya Kwanza regime must take full responsibility for all the deaths, injuries and destruction of property arising from the violent suppression of peaceful protests,” noted the Senator.

“The President must publicly direct his security organs to forthwith cease the ongoing abductions; an exercise we believe is being undertaken by his full approval and that of the State. He must account for and order the release of all the detainees abducted by security agencies.”

Furthermore, the opposition party approached the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) to explore claims of police brutality during the showings quickly.

“IPOA should speed up investigations concerning this large number of occurrences remembering claims of mass murder by police for Githurai and Rongai,” said Sifuna.

Uganda Primary Schools to Start Lessons Against Corruption, Government Declares

In Uganda, primary schools will start teaching students about corruption, as declared by the government. This initiative aims to raise awareness about corruption from an early age and foster a culture of integrity and accountability among youth.

Mr Nicholas Abola, the DEI’s Commissioner for Communication and Information, emphasized the importance of shaping young minds to resist corrupt practices.

He explained that the DEI has collaborated with the Ministry of Education to integrate the changes into the curriculum for both primary and secondary education levels.

“Our focus is on nurturing the character of our youth, steering them away from the temptations of corruption,” he stated.

Sania Nagaddya, an educator, acknowledged that while formal lessons on corruption have yet to be introduced, schools have successfully woven related topics into their programs.

“The establishment of patriotic clubs has been instrumental in instilling values of ethics and integrity among students, paving the way for a more conscientious future generation,” she remarked.

The curriculum is intended to educate students about various forms of corruption and the significance of integrity in everyday life, according to specifics.

Uganda hopes to establish a precedent in the fight against corruption and cultivate a culture of honesty and openness that will resonate with future generations with this progressive step.

FROM BEING A CLEANER TO OWNING A FRESH PRODUCE SUPERMARKET

Meet Sabelo Mkhwanazi, a 32 years old South African agribusiness man, and the Founder & CEO of Mayanda Fresh, a fresh produce supermarket based in Tongaat, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Sabelo started working as a cleaner in a butchery store. After working for several months, he saw a gap in the retail market and launched his own company that deals with fresh agricultural produce.

His fresh produce supermarket sells a wide variety of products which includes dry groceries, meat, takeaway food, bakery goods, fruits and vegetables.

Mkhwanazi also owns businesses in transport and logistics, construction and plant hiring. He said he decided to venture into retail as he saw a gap in the market for locally owned supermarkets. While there were small shops in communities, most were now foreign owned.

Mayanda Fresh sells a range of products, from vegetables and baked goods to bus and flight tickets and water and electricity vouchers. It includes a deli and butchery service.

Managing a business like this in South Africa is not without challenges, and one of them is load shedding.

Mkhwanazi said he had to work around load shedding times as he did not have a back-up generator, which would cost him R450 000. He wants to expand and open branches of the store in other areas.

Mkhwanazi said his advice for young entrepreneurs was to start with what they have, conduct thorough research, and build up their savings.

He added that it was important to write up a business concept and work on implementing it slowly, without compromising on standards and quality.

Mkhwanazi said entrepreneurs should be prepared for failure as some businesses might not take shape because of a lack of funding, and that it was important to put these setbacks aside and focus on concepts that could work.

Although competition was fierce, there was room for new players, he added. As a start-up shop, the business employed 20 people, but it would need 40 to 50 staff members once it was fully operational, he said.

What the Terms 3G, 4G, H+, H, and E Mean on Most Phones

The many generations and types of mobile communication technologies used in cell phones and other mobile devices are referred to by the designations 3G, 4G, H+, H, and E.
These technologies allow for wireless data transfer between gadgets and give users access to the Internet and other data services. You can better choose the appropriate mobile device and service package for your needs by understanding these words’ definitions and the capabilities of your smartphone.

Term 3G
The third generation of mobile communication technologies—also referred to as 3G—was created in the 1990s and the early 2000s. The third generation of technologies, or 3G, were created to transmit data more quickly and reliably than the 2G or second generation of technologies.

Different technologies for data transmission, including CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM, are used by 3G technologies (Global System for Mobile Communications). Higher data transmission rates and more sophisticated capabilities like video calling and streaming video are also supported by 3G technologies.

Term 4G
The newest generation of mobile communication technologies, known as 4G, were created in the late 2000s and early 2010s. With data transfer speeds that are many times faster than 3G, 4G technologies are intended to offer data transmission that is even faster and more dependable than 3G technologies.

Advanced capabilities like high-definition video streaming and quicker download times are also supported by 4G technology. Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) are two examples of 4G technologies that are only intended for data transfer and do not permit voice communications.
Other 4G technologies, including those based on CDMA2000 and GSM, enable both voice and data connection.

Term H+
H+, sometimes known as 3.5G or 3G+, is a word that is occasionally used to refer to a high-speed version of 3G. In locations where 4G coverage is not yet available, H+ technologies, which are intended to enable faster data transmission rates than normal 3G technologies, are frequently employed.

HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and HSUPA are two separate data transmission technologies and protocols used by H+ technologies, which operate in the same frequency range as 3G technologies (High-Speed Uplink Packet Access).

Term H
HSPA, a form of 3G technology, is referred to by the letter H. (High-Speed Packet Access). HSPA technologies are frequently utilized as a transitional technology between 3G and 4G technologies since they are intended to offer quicker data transmission rates than normal 3G technologies.
While HSDPA and HSUPA are used for data transmission in HSPA technologies, they are not used in 3G technologies that use the same frequency band.

Term E
The name “E” is used to refer to EDGE, a form of 2G technology (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution). In locations where 3G or 4G coverage is not yet available, EDGE technologies, which are intended to deliver faster data transmission rates than conventional 2G technologies, are frequently deployed.

While EDGE uses the same frequency range as 2G technologies, it transmits data using distinct methods and protocols, such as 8PSK (Phase Shift Keying) modulation.

In conclusion, the names 3G, 4G, H+, H, and E refer to several mobile communication technologies utilized in smartphones and other mobile devices.

Are You Aware of Mastakes Youngsters Make That Cause Them To Tarmac Long After Completing School?

Before you figure out who to blame, here are 3 mistakes that graduates make that cause them to suffer long after completing school.

1.Being Picky On Careers

The problem with most graduates is that they tend to “box” their minds into believing that they can only handle careers that are related to the courses and areas of specialization they undertook in campus.

Well, that’s where hell breaks loose because in most cases the so-called “relevant” job doesn’t come easily. The best way to link up with real life after college is to first open your mind to all opportunities that come your way. Don’t turn down that electrician’s job simply because you are an economist.

Don’t turn down that part-time teaching job at your local secondary school just because you have graduated in Bsc. Actuarial Science. The world outside here doesn’t care so much about what you studied in class – it cares more about what you can bring to the table given the slightest opportunity.

2.Not Being Ready To Volunteer

That white collar job may not come easily and neither will that dream business take a couple of days to blossom. That’s the reality. Out here you have to learn to sweat for success.

A good way to kick-start your career is by volunteering your services so that you can gain relevant experience first. So beyond the 6 month internship you took as part of your course-work don’t be hesitant to clock in one more year by volunteering in some institution.

You can look for charity organizations or start-ups and volunteer to serve. If volunteering opportunities still prove elusive don’t hesitate to take the initiative to start something like say a community based organization.

For instance, you can get 10 other like-minded youth and start planting trees and sensitizing the community about its importance. Or you can even start a part-time tuition class to raise the standards of learning in your area. Don’t worry about how low on the food chain you get to start – a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.

3.Going Back To Live With Your Parents

If you go back to your parents, to some extent they may show you that life is simple but at some point they will be tired to stay with a grown up. Therefore you will be forced to vacate maybe when it’s already late.

Don’t let them make things easier for you. Go out there and fight your own battles until you learn how to service on your own.

In conclusion, you may not have all the money required to start your business and luck may not be on your side as far as finding a job that’s relevant to what you learned in campus is concerned. But that should not put you down. Get your hustle up, stop the blame game and most importantly, swing to action
