The High Court has cancelled the bond of Joseph Irungu, also known as “Jowie”, after he was found guilty of murdering businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Justice Grace Nzioka found that the prosecution had adduced adequate evidence and proved beyond reasonable doubt that Jowie indeed killed Monica.
Consequently, the judge directed that Jowie would be remanded until his sentencing scheduled on March 8, 2024. Prior to this, Jowie was out on a cash bail of Ksh. 2 million that was granted on February 13, 2020.
Meanwhile, Jowie’s co-accused, former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe, has been set free after she was acquitted of the murder charge. The judge pointed out that the count of murder was not the proper charge that the prosecution would have preferred against her.
Jowie Irungu had denied knowing Monica Kimani prior to her death. Phone call logs from the Safaricom law enforcement officer, however, showed he had called Monica on September 1, 2018. The call was traced to Lang’ata DOD.
Monica’s brother recounted meeting Jowie at his sister’s house. Jowie murdered Monica Kimani, Court ruled.
Justice Grace Nzioka said Jowie stole the ID, armed himself with a gun, carried a kanzu gained access, and murdered Monica Kimani.
