Born on November 20, 1942, Joseph Robinette Biden grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and New Castle County, Delaware. Therefore, he is attaining 81 years today.
Academically, Biden graduated in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and in 1968 with a law degree from Syracuse University of New York.
Biden returned to Delaware after law school to work as an attorney, but soon became involved in politics, serving on the New Castle County Council from 1970 to 1972. At the age of 29, he was elected to the United States Senate, becoming the fifth youngest senator in history.
Despite considering retirement, Biden was convinced to join the Senate in 1973, and he went on to win reelection six times, becoming Delaware’s longest-serving senator.
In addition to his job as a United States Senator, Biden was an adjunct lecturer at the Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware, from 1991 until 2008.
After Barack Obama secured enough delegates to earn the Democratic presidential nomination, Biden emerged as the front-runner to be Obama’s running mate.
Obama and Biden were re-elected for a second term in November 2012, defeating the Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.
In August 2020, Biden chose Kamala Harris as his running mate, making her the first African American woman to appear on a major party’s national ticket, and he was officially proclaimed the Democratic presidential contender later that month.
Biden received the 270 electoral votes required to win the presidency on November 7, 2020, four days after the election. Biden eventually received 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232; Biden won the popular vote by more than seven million ballots. He has been the President of United States since January 20, 2021
